Everyone I mean Harvey massage therapist this is Jess
And today I'm going to be talking about how to work on a client who is fully clothed
This is something that might come up if you choose to go to an office setting and maybe you don't have a massage chair
Or maybe you just prefer to work on a table and so you bring your table and you
Just work on fully clued us workers that's a great way to doing it this might also come into play if you
You are getting a massage you tell someone to undress to their comfort level and this is their comfort level in a lot
This can also apply when you're working at a sporting event when you're working on foreclosed people
Those places you might be doing a more kinetic massage one with more stretching and stuff like that
And that's a little bit different from what I'm going to be going today if you'd like to see a routine that I do that involves
More stretching you can click down in the description
So when I'm working with a fully clothed client I do steal a lot from what I know about
Chair massage so I'm going to be
Not doing a lot of Gliding Over
Close
There is definitely a place for that and you can use the friction to create some heat in
And you can definitely
Introduced movement that way
But I like to take some of the lessons from
Turn the sausage and some of the lessons from my pastor released
And apply them
To this environment where you can't really go outside not the same way that you can
With bare skin
And I usually start kind of like this
Very gently and gradually walking my way down the back
And then a cup
This is kind of
Similar to how I
Start a standard
Massage
I move slowly I make my contact gradually
And I want to begin by telling the story of this entire back
So just like with chair massage
I'm sinking in
And allowing my hands to travel I'm displacing
The skin over the underlying tissue
This is creating some fascial traction that is actually a little bit harder to do
When I got oil on my hands
This is a good opportunity
To create that movement that mobilization of
The Superficial tissue over the underlying tissue
And of the
Bones of the spine
And notice that I'm moving slowly
Unlike a 15-minute
Chair massage 45-minute
Post-event sports massage
I want to bring in the
General field
Of a table massage
And to me that means
Slowly introducing myself
It mean working with the three-dimensionality of the body
And it means going at a measured pace
At a slower pace
I want to give just as much consideration during this massage as I would during a
Standard massage with oil
And next I'll do what I always do which is come over to one side
And I will switch up my tools I don't want to spend the entire time using the Palmer Services of
My hands like this
I'll switch over to my soft fist I will be sinking in a bit with the
Metacarpal phalangeal joints but I also want to spread some of that pressure to these proximal dorsal
Phalanges
So I've got
My fists sinking in just a bit I'm displacing tissue down toward her tailbone
I'm not allowing myself to
Just sink toward the table I still want to keep that myofascial angle
And I can go up and down the spine like that
His other hand is acting as the mother hand
It's applying broad comforting contact
And is taking some of my weight for me
Which I like
Allows me to easily stand up from these moves and it allows me to modulate the amount of pressure that I'm
Giving with this other tool
Something nice about glute massage is that you always have perfect traction you never have to
Worry about
How much oil you have applied
You always just
Stick right to that most superficial tissue
And so this is a great opportunity to
Take this superficial tissue and take it for a ride so I can take this
Spinal erector tissue
And draw gently outward
So right now I'm thinking this way I'm thinking out loud early
An easy way of
Insinuating that same gliding
Temptation that you would get from a standard massage
Is to just rock your own body weight from hand to hand
And gently walk your way
Do different parts of the body
Never feel like you need to
Pull your own
Body weight up using your back at a crane
If you're not able to give a lot of body weight to your client
You can't either get further over your client and deeper into your stands this will
Give less of your body weight to the client
Or you can have one hand in a place that can take more pressure while you're using the other hand work in a place that
Isn't able to take as much pressure
And you can always
You went and
To stabilize yourself on the table so here I'm able to sync as much pressure as I want into the table
Instead of getting it to my client so there a lot of options for
How you apply this pressure and while I'm talking about sinking with this hand into the table this is a
Great things to do while you are using
Your forearm and elbow which is another great option
For working with occluded client or
Any other client
Anything that I've talked about so far
You can easily do
With your proximal
Forearm
And of course you can always
Use petrissage here
Just realize that because you're not gliding you are probably drawing up more tissue then you normal
We would if you had oil on your hands so just be aware of that and that's also another
Benefit to working with a quote client
Or a drape client is another is a good way of simulating this just every time that I draw up this
Trapezius tissue I'm drawing up an awful lot of it it's not slipping through my grasp
So I'm not able to do that
Gliding sensation at the same time but
This is a great way of
Grabbing up a lot of fashion and a lot of muscle
And this is something that you can sit with
And wait for that
Muscle to soften
And there are plenty of good opportunities for using friction here and by the friction I mean moving the
Superficial tissue over the underlying tissue right now I'm working with infraspinatus
And I'm kind of doing a loop of the entire muscle
I'm following that inferior portion of the spine of the scapula outward
And then coming back
To that infraspinous fossa
And going back around
And because I can't really slide I've got a good opportunity to pin these tear
Larry's muscles
Against the lateral border of the scapula
When you're working with this quote client just remember some of the same
Principles that talked about in past videos
And that's two
Return frequently to these Broad
Integrating Strokes
To even though you can get very specific when you're doing this work because it's so easy
Easy to get into that
Depression just be careful about kind of cutting
Inclined up into little bits
Frequently go back to these
Broad
Applications of pressure
And the walking moves
That reintegrate
These are larger sections of the body
In fact this clothes massage can be nice because when we don't have to worry about the great you can do
Do more to integrate the entire body instead of just worrying about the upper body or just worried
Everybody you can
Work on both of the same time without having to be concerned about where the drape is
Is or treat moving is Heather excetera so you can work on the lower body as you work on the upper body
And just as an example of a few more things you can do
With certain areas of the body you might like to give them a nice lift so for working with this
Wig I can using a thumbless duck grip to look like this
Quack quack I can scoop up this cat tissue
And this is pretty easy on my joints I'm not having to use my thumb is for anything at all
If that doesn't feel quite right for you you can come to the side angle yourself toward the head
And use your palms to lift up this tissue
And you can
Bring some movement into it
This is a good opportunity to
Do moves that
Kris and jostling of the body
As you work
And you can continue that up into this upper leg as you are lifting this tissue like this
Again try not to use your back as a crane try to
Get low in your stance and anchor yourself into your side or into your leg right now
Now I'm kind of lounging on my own leg and now I can get over my client
And wind up
This posterior thigh tissue
And as I work with quote clients whether it's on a massage table or a massage chair I always try
Try to use the natural elasticity of their body to help me move
So right now I'm sinking my body weight into her posterior thigh and I'm
Bouncing back up
Turn not having to use my back to stand up from this
I'm just able to
Gently Rock
Without using pretty much any muscular effort
And just like with the back and with any other part of the body you can choose to sink in
And wait
I'm taking my body weight down and then displacing the tissue up
So I'm creating a bit of fashion fraction up toward this is guilty porosity
And I'm just waiting
I'm allowing this
Hamstring region to soften
I might feel it or I might not
Here case the static moves
Can feel quite nice and it's something that
It's easy to forget about
When you have when your hands
That sometimes you can just
Interact with the used
Insertion sites
And just hang out
A lot can be accomplished by
Sitting still
And the same thing working with this as I joined
You can it's easier to make this contact and allow it to be static
When there's some cloth in the way
And
Here I can sit here and wait
I can invite my client to take some easy deep breaths that
Changing the shape of the abdomen
Can change the relationship of the lumbar spine
And the sacrum
And I can make some changes
Just buy gently rocking this leg
Or I can make bigger changes by
Packing up his ankle and creating some motion
Now if you're working with feet and the client has their socks on just remember that you can see
I'm curling my fingers up word my own Palms
And I'm just kind of compressing the foot I'm just giving the foot a nice broad squeeze
And this is kind of the same Principle as with the back
You can kind of travel at the foot
With these big broad squeezes
Even if you can't Glide
That's just fine
Where the toes and give them some
Individual attention
You can scoop the calcaneus and give that a nice squeeze as your
Working with those individual toes are as you're working with other areas of the foot
You can sink into the ankle and give that some
How that deep friction
Disconnect we be a somewhat safer and gentler way of working with the top of the foot
Just gently mobilizing the skin on the top of the foot
This socket kind of Distributing my pressure a little bit
Pain is keeping me from
Pulling on that skin to specifically
And if you would like to spend more time with this foot you can always sink in with your finger
Tips think kind of a reflexology tight feeling
And explore the outer boundaries of this foot
Explore the arches
Explore the ball of the foot
I'm using broad pressure with
My palm and specific pressure with my fingertips
I have never figured out a good way of getting a picture of this so you'll have to imagine
And of course if your client has chosen to remove the shocks you can ask them if you can use some lotion here and work
Work with that normally
Now I haven't been doing a lot of gliding so far but that is definitely something that you can do so
If you zoom you can
And when your fingers out and use your palm to
Create some friction
Superficial friction
With these different areas of the thigh this feels awfully nice along the IT band and Whispers
Extra sensitivity there you can use the heel of your hand in this area lateral to the tibia
So that tibialis anterior and its friends
And once again because I don't have that Glide happening I can take some of
Does tissue and displace it when otherwise I might not be able to do that easily so I can sink into this tube
Anterior region
And
Kind of displays it outwards and downwards
I can feel awful nice and this can be a good place to work for
Runners and
Pretty much everyone
Temporary but Exposed Skin you can
With your client's permission use some
Oil
So I could
You just pretty much my regular routine with her
Farms in elbows and hands and neck
Some clients may be willing to undo a top button so that you can more easily access their neck
But
I say just work with what you got and if there is clock in the way just think about what advantages
Is that gives you as far as
Giving you that extra traction
Not having to deal with
The Great
I consider great time to work with the packs and move the arm as you do so
Cuz you don't have to worry about the drapes yet then
Are you let me know what you think let me know if there's anything that you do with clothes clients in the comments

Massage japan hot oil
Hi I mean Harvey massage therapist
Today we're going to talk about how to
Talk to your client on the table
Why we would want to do this what the circumstances would be where it would be appropriate
And why it can be useful
This is something that I started to do
When I was working at one of those big box massage franchises
And we only had 10 minutes between clients you had your 15 minutes your 10 minutes and then your next client
Land altogether
And that wasn't a lot of time to do anything like
Say hello or even introduce yourself
So
What I started to do
Was take some of the things that I would but after massage or before the massage during a massage during the session
And I found that there were some benefits to that
Benefits to
Educating the client about their own body
While they're on the table
That
You just can't get by trying to
You know
Damn whole lot of information
After the massage when
There's no teaching AIDS
And I know you can have a chart on the wall but there's nothing like
Talking to your client about their muscles
Wow you got your thumbs sunk into an interesting point
Princeton's while you're working on a client's rotator cuff you can tell them what the heck of rotator cuff is
But people don't know that their rotator cuff is a group of muscles because
No never explains that it
Just sounds like a cup
By taking a moment to
Explain
What you're doing and why you're doing it
That
Can bring your body
Can I give them an idea
About what's going on in an area that may have been a mysterious or even scary they've been hurt there
It also
Bring them on board
With
Your treatment plan and with your reasoning
If we
Stay opaque
And it's difficult for a client to tell why we're doing what we're doing
Sometimes it can seem like we're wasting your time
They don't know
Why we're working
Back here when they got peanut here
They don't know why we're interested in their hips when the pain is in their little back
So by getting them this
Extra information by showing them
With our hands that there can be a correlation between these two points
We can bring him on board
With why we're doing what they're doing
And that can have some interesting results
First of all it can increase their satisfaction as a massage client
By knowing what we're doing and why we're doing it
It can make them feel like their partner
And their treatment
Which is how I always want it to seeing
Second by bringing them on board that can increase their compliance with homework
Am I bringing them on board with our thinking like this
That can be more effective than just saying
Ghost rachor
Go use a foam roller
We're telling them the why of it
By telling a little bit extra
That can be enough to make them think a this might be worth doing more of
Disclaimer one thing that I don't want to do while I'm working on the clients and their kind of at my Mercy
This person is here
They are trusting you with their body
What I don't want is to
Stigmatize them
I don't want to
Talk to them or frame things in such a way
But they leave with a complex or with new worries about their body
So
Talk about this in Minot video the reason why I don't really like that term is because people can kind of carried around with them
For the rest of their lives
Oh I have not
So when you're telling them what you're feeling make sure to frame it
In a way that
Is accepting
Normalizing
A contrast that with
Wow you got the tightest shoulders ever that's
Not what I want to tell my clients
Some people like hearing things like that because they think of it as a competition
But for other people that will make them worry that will be something that they think about her a long time
So
When I talk to people about their body especially while I'm in contact with it realize that that is a
Vulnerable moment
That that is a time of trust
And I want to
Given the window
Into their body
Without making it seem
Scary weird
And on that note just realize that it is possible to overload a client with information
I don't want to be explaining things were talking about things for any more than a few minutes and then given session
Especially if they're not responding
If the client isn't asking questions if they're not interested
Then I will absolutely revert back to silence and it just go about massage
But
If the client is interested if they've got
Specific
Dysfunction or pain that they're very interested in learning more about
Then I'll happily spend more time than that
Just realize that you don't need to spend your entire 60 Minutes doing
What your client lead the way as far as how much talking is going to happen during any given session
Are some examples of some things I might talk to the client about during massage
For instance if I'm working with a client who has
GoPro
I got
Shar-Pei mix
Limited range of motion
While I'm working with
This rotator cuff
I will take the opportunity to
Tell him a little bit about it
Do you feel anything there
Okay
So
Sometimes I can be as specific as that but
Sometimes I have to let people know what I mean by that
Incase
Once I have learned that they are
Feeling something in this area
I'll tell him a little about it
So this is
One of your
For rotator cuff muscles
This morning
Change alarm outward is called the infraspinatus
And
In the past I've seen a lot of correlation between
Tightness here
And pain on the front of the shoulder
So this is something that I did
Like to work a little bit more with as we go forward
And once I've just given in that little bit of information
I can
Stop there
Or I can tell him a little bit more about these other muscles and how they
Are related
I'm going to areas where you can be useful to
Talk to your client about their own body
Is where the relationship between
Dysfunction in pain
That they might not immediately
Find intuitive
So it's someone tells me about their little back and they've given me permission to work with.
I'll let them know that
But I'm sinking into right now
Is
Gluteus maximus
And
There can frequently be
A relationship
Between
Tightness here
And
Tightness and pain in the lower back
Cuz I'm working let me know if you ever feel any
Referred pain
Into this other area okay
And I can also be used for when you're working with areas that might not commonly be worked by
Massage therapist
So if I'm working with this hip region
And I come around to the side
And I'm making contact with gluteus medius
They can be useful to let them know why this area can be a little bit more
Intense little bit more sensitive
And just let them know what you're working on
And I like to
Throughout a little bit of information
When I'm working with
Or planning to work with unusual muscles
So
Again these are areas that
Other massage therapist might not necessarily work with but these are also
Muscles that can be a little bit
Emotional
Muscles that can be intense
So
I like to
Let them know more about their own body but to
This is also important for getting informed consent
Bye
Letting them know where I'm working and why
They're better able to say
I don't want
Contact there
Cranston's if I
I'm working with someone's jaw and I think that it might be important to work with their scn as well
I like to let them know a little bit about that
I'd like to work with the muscle on the front of your neck it's this real big guy right here
This can feel a little bit weird but if it feels at all like choking or anything like that please let me know
Okay
That's how I go about it
Let me know what you think down in the comments let me know if
You do much talking during session and how you go about it
Let me know if you if you're planning on trying any of this
If you got any concerns about doing so thanks as always to my patreon supporters consider subscribing and Phoenix time

The importance of massage
The Health Benefits of a Massage
We tend to think of a massage as a way to pamper ourselves, but it's much more than a momentary feel-good treatment. A massage has many important health benefits. In fact, massages can help you maintain physical, mental, and emotional well being, especially when it is part of your regular wellness rout
The fast-growing massage chain, Massage Envy, was built on the idea that if a massage were more affordable, people would get it as part of a monthly routine. The work your therapist does in each session builds on itself, helping your body maintain its relaxed state and your muscles to remain pliable even during times of physical and mental stress.
Here are some of the many benefits of massages.
Benefits
- It calms the nervous system and promotes a sense of relaxation and well being.
- Reduces tension and anxiety and can help relieve depression.
- It improves blood circulation, which delivers oxygen and nutrients to the cells.
- Stimulates the lymphatic system, which carries away the body’s waste products.
- Prevents and relieves muscle cramps and spasms.
- Massage therapy can help with pain management in conditions such as arthritis, sciatica, and muscle spasms.
Remind yourself of these health benefits if you start to feel guilty about getting a massage!
When Not to Have a Message
Massages are not a good idea if you have a fever, infections, inflammation, osteoporosis, or other medical conditions. If you have any questions about whether a massage would be right for you, ask to speak to a massage therapist before you make your appointment.
How Often
How often you should get a massage depends on several factors, including your physical and emotional needs, your stress levels, and your budget. There's no question that you will experience the most health benefits from a massage when you get massages regularly. A massage calms the nervous system, improves blood circulation, lymphatic circulation, relieves muscle pain, and helps with pain management in conditions such as arthritis, sciatica, and muscle spasms.
